Shirley Faye Byford, born on November 20, 1936, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026. Raised in the Sugar Grove area, Shirley was a hard worker who spent many dedicated years working at several local sewing factories prior to her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene F. Byford; her parents, Gobel Travis and Atlanta Georgia Railey Travis; her sisters, Ernestine Scott, Billie Mae Ryan, and Betty Jane Garner; her brothers, Charles Travis and James C. “Bub” Travis; and her half-sisters, Helen Ann Redd, Lou Dawn Davis, Judith Adams, Marilyn Thornton, Karen Travis, and Sharon Diane Travis.
Shirley is survived by her son, Danny E. Byford and his wife, Carolyn, of Marion, KY. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Mandi Shuecraft (Graham) of the Tolu area, Jared Byford (Amy) of Marion, and Rachel Collins (Jeremy) of Marion; as well as six great-grandchildren: Braxton Winders (Lyndsey) of Mayfield, KY, Noah Byford, Jordy Byford, Beau Byford, Cade Collins, and Harper Collins, all of Marion. She is also survived by her brother, Newman Travis (Betty); her half-sisters, Patricia Bethe, Linda Marie Sanders and Greta Ridings (Glenn); her half-brother, William Allen Travis; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Private visitation will be held.
Public graveside services will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Mapleview Cemetery with Rev. David LeNeave officiating.
Gilbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
