Phyllis Jean Wood, age 88, of Springfield, TN and formerly of Marion, KY passed away on June 10, 2026 at NHC-Springfield. She will be sorely missed, but the family rejoices that her long journey is over and her faith has now become sight.


Phyllis was born on February 10, 1938, in Fredonia, KY to Hubert Sr. (Frank) and Georgia Roberta Scott Conger. Phyllis had a great appreciation for music and taught piano to many students in her home, passing on her knowledge and love to the next generation. She played organ and sang at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marion, KY. Later, she attended First United Methodist Church in Springfield, TN and Cornerstone Nashville in Madison, TN. In addition to music, she loved making crafts and tole painting. Phyllis was also known for her love of animals. She co-founded and was president of the Crittenden County Humane Society and later worked at son Kevin's veterinary hospital. She maintained a large collection of pig figurines, a wink to her sons' work at the Marion stockyard as teenagers. Over the years in Marion, she worked at Cochran's Hardware, The Crittenden Press, The Crittenden County Extension Office, and owned The Emporium Hallmark Store and Circle-O Farm Center.


Survivors include her sons, Kevin (Lesia) Wood of Springfield, TN and Jay (Keri) Wood of McMinnville, TN; sisters, Carolyn Guess of Dover, TN and Diana Trask of Marion, KY; grandchildren, Erin (Jonathan) Schaefer, Hayden (Savannah) Wood, Hannah (Chad) Dunn, Mitchell (Ginh) Wood, Harrison (Shelby) Wood and Hailey Wood; great grandchildren, Joanna Wood, Amilyn Wood, Meredith Schaefer, Lydia Schaefer, Owen Schaefer, Finley Wood, Jayce Wood, Parker Dunn, Ridge Dunn and Presley Dunn,


In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Wood and brother, Frankie Conger.


Funeral services for Phyllis Wood will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 12:00 Noon at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, KY with Pastor David LeNeave officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 AMuntil service time at the funeral home.


Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery in Marion, KY.
