Mary Jo Adams, lovingly known as “Jo Jo Melly” and “Granny Jo,” passed away peacefully at 5:38 PM on May 28, 2026, at Crittenden County Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 86.
Born on July 5, 1939, in Gallatin, Illinois, Mary Jo was raised in Rosiclare, Illinois, by her parents, Raymon Patton and Alberta Randalls Patton. Throughout her life, she was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and deep love for her family.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harlan Adams; her parents, Raymon and Alberta Patton; two sisters and two brothers; her sons, Raymon Adams, Darryl Adams, David Adams, Nathan Adams, and Michael Adams; her daughters, Lorie Fernandez and Shellie Jenkins; and her grandsons, Adam Larsen and Ricky Adams.
She leaves behind her son, James Todd Jr.; her daughter, Lisa Holeman; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
Mary Jo found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time outdoors, whether fishing, tending her garden, or enjoying the beauty of nature. She especially enjoyed working puzzles and could often be found sitting on her front porch, watching hummingbirds visit and listening to the sounds of the day. Those quiet moments brought her great joy and reflected the peaceful spirit she carried throughout her life.
A compassionate caregiver, Mary Jo devoted part of her life to caring for others through her work at Outwood and Highland Homes. Her kindness, patience, and dedication touched many lives and left a lasting impact on those she served.
Above all else, Mary Jo cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her strength, warmth, and unconditional love created a foundation for generations of family who will carry her memory in their hearts. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her love, wisdom, and gentle presence will live on through the many lives she touched.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
