David Leon Haire

David Leon Haire, 80, of Marion, Kentucky, passed away on August 8, 2026, in Calvert City, Kentucky. He was born February 18, 1946, in Henderson, Kentucky, to the late Melvin and Nellie Haire.

David was a farmer, coal miner, and small-business owner. He owned and operated Just Sports and The Mattoon General Store and enjoyed making barbecue. A 1964 graduate of Crittenden County High School, David was a member of the 1964 Crittenden County football team that won the state championship. Following high school, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Haire; two daughters, Mary (Chris) Cooksey of Marion and Dava (Jody) Hayden of Gilbertsville; and four grandchildren, Hannah (Austin) Birk, Chase Hayden, Holden Cooksey, and Lilly Hayden.

He is also survived by six siblings, Steve Haire, Sandy Haire, Larry Haire, Dennis Haire, Donnie Haire, and Roger Haire, all of Marion, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Nellie Haire.

Funeral services for David Haire will be held Noon Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, KY. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rosebud Cemetery.
